The Brown-capped Laughingthrush occurs in northeastern India and the Chin Hills of western Myanmar. Some sources place it in Ianthocincla or Garrulax; this account follows the pool name Trochalopteron austeni.
Adults have dark maroon-brown upperparts with fine white streaks on the neck. The underparts are broadly white-scaled, and the wings and tail have white tips.
It uses broadleaf evergreen and secondary forest, forest edges, bamboo thickets and clearings. It forages mostly on the ground for insects and seeds, in pairs or small groups.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
