Cozumelan golden bats have been reported mainly in Central America. Coat color alone may not separate them reliably from close relatives, and one Belize specimen is the basis for a published DNA diet record.
Paler brown dorsal fur was proposed historically as a way to distinguish it from a close relative. The paper notes overlap in color and measurements, so color alone is not definitive.
Fecal DNA from one bat collected in Belize included insect and plant material. This is a single-specimen result, not a complete description of the species' diet.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
