This bushshrike inhabits montane forests from eastern Congo into the East African highlands. Its bright colors can be hard to see because it moves quietly through dense cover.
Adults are mostly green, with a red forehead and throat, a broad black breast band, a yellow belly, and a black tail. Young birds are paler green above and finely barred below.
It uses humid highland scrub, montane forest, and dense undergrowth, including thickets with bamboo or bracken. It searches among foliage and on the ground for invertebrates such as beetles and grasshoppers.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
