It is a nocturnal bird that sits motionless on branches, with plumage that blends into bark. It lives in lowland forests in Sri Lanka.
This small nocturnal bird has plumage patterned like tree trunks and branches. When it stays still on a perch, it blends into the bark around it.
In Sri Lanka, birds may roost in the same tree for at least a week. At one Sinharaja nest, both parents fed the chick in the evening and before dawn, and took turns staying at the nest for about two hours at a time during the night.
At Sinharaja in 2003, one nest about 6 m above ground in a tree fork was made of twigs, with lichens and moss outside and down inside. One unmarked white egg was seen on 7 September.
The Sinharaja chick looked like a puff of white wool when hatching was first confirmed. Later its eyes were open and small reddish-brown feathers had grown.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
