The Red-lored Amazon is mostly green, with a red forehead and bluish crown. Its native range extends from eastern Mexico to northwestern South America.
Its body is mostly green, with red on the forehead and lores and a dull blue crown. Birds in the northern part of the range have bright yellow cheeks.
A Belize bird guide describes it living in flocks and forming pairs during breeding. Pairs preen and feed one another; the bill and feet help husk seeds and climb.
