This bat was described from Yanbaru in northern Okinawa Island. Surveys in the forest found that tree holes beside streams were important roosts.
The original description says its dorsal fur and wing membranes are black, and its fur is soft and silky.
In a Yanbaru study, researchers caught 18 bats and tracked six. The bats strongly preferred tree holes along streams, and acoustic detections in the forest were also restricted to waterways.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
