A woodpecker of the Philippines. BirdLife's amended 2017 account describes adults with a yellow head, neck and belly, red back and wings, a red crown in males, and an entirely yellow head in females.
Adults have a golden-yellow head, neck, and underparts, with red wings and back. The male has a bright red crown and crest; the female's head is entirely yellow.
BirdLife describes it as a lowland-forest specialist. Secondary forest and orchard examples on that page refer to the related C. lucidus, so they are not included here.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
