The 2012 description reports this bat from Meghalaya in northeastern India and the Chin Hills of Myanmar. Records of its appearance and life are sparse; the reported capture involved one individual.
The male holotype has a medium-gray back. About two-thirds of each ventral hair is black at the base, ending in a white tip that gives the underside a pale appearance.
Researchers caught one M. jaintiana in a harp trap set across a path through a small bamboo grove mixed with native plants.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
