This forest monarch occurs on Tahiti. Young birds have orange plumage; black feathers increase as they mature, and birds are fully black at about four years old.
Plumage changes with age: birds are orange in their first two years, mixed orange and black around the third year, and fully black at four years or older.
The breeding study observed open-cup nests placed in branch forks and built mostly of moss. In the study, many breeding pairs raised one chick in a year.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
