This small piculet lives on Hispaniola. Its yellow crown and the streaked pale underside are distinctive.
The back, neck, and wings are olive, while the pale breast and belly are streaked and spotted. A male has a red spot in its yellow crown.
It uses dry and moist forests, including mangroves, and eats insects such as ants and beetles as well as fruit. It excavates a nest cavity in dead material.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
