Described as the world's largest woodpecker, it is a large bird that moves through the canopy in small family groups.
Its body is grey, with a pink blush on the cheeks and a pale orange bare patch on the throat. Males have a red moustachial stripe.
It moves through forests in small family flocks and hammers powerfully on trees. The eBird account says it is confined to pristine forests with many tall trees.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
