The Striated Caracara is a raptor of southern South America and nearby islands. It uses coastal and grassland habitats, scavenges carcasses, and may turn stones while searching for food.
Adults are dark brown to black, with white streaks on the nape, upper back, and chest. The thighs are reddish, bare skin around the eyes is yellow, and the bill is bluish. Juveniles are paler than adults.
It eats carrion, including seabird and sea-lion carcasses, as well as insects, worms, eggs, and some live prey. It may forage in groups and has been observed turning stones while searching for food.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
