The Torresian Kingfisher is a large kingfisher of coastal northern and eastern Australia and southern New Guinea. It uses mudflats and mangroves, where it searches for crabs and other prey.
Adult males have a greenish-brown crown and mantle, blue-green rump, wings, and tail, and white throat and underparts. Females are browner; juveniles show pale scaling on the breast.
It forages on coastal mudflats, in mangroves, and along nearshore water. An Australian field account notes a preference for mud crabs, alongside other prey such as small fish and insects. The species is described as sedentary.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
