This black bird is confined to Tasmania and nearby islands. White tips on its wings and tail and its yellow eye are distinctive; it feeds in forests and near towns.
Adults have a black body and heavy black bill, white tips to the flight feathers and tail, and a bright yellow eye. Immature birds are duller.
It feeds both in trees and on the ground, eating insects, berries, and carrion. In winter it moves down from mountain areas to milder lowlands.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
