The Pied Currawong is a mostly black bird with a bright yellow eye and white markings on parts of its tail and wings. It lives from forests to suburbs in eastern Australia and can form large flocks outside the breeding season.
Most of its body is black, and its eye is bright yellow. White is limited to the underside and ends of the tail and small wing patches visible in flight. Females can be greyer below, and young birds are duller and browner than adults.
Outside the breeding season, large flocks form; at other times birds are seen alone, in pairs, or in family groups. They eat lizards, insects, caterpillars, berries, and other prey, sometimes storing prey in a tree crevice.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
