This opossum has a three-colored coat and a tail that fattens with seasonal food availability. Its sparse records are from Ancash and Lima in central Peru.
Its coat is tricolored: darker on the back, paler on the sides and white underneath. Tail thickness changes with the season and food availability.
Females of this genus have no pouch, so young cling to the mother’s underside. Species-specific behavior records for Tate’s fat-tailed mouse opossum are sparse.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
