This bird is restricted to the Altiplano Norte de Antioquia in Colombia. Its 2007 description was based on three museum specimens; a live bird was found in the field in 2018.
The crown is rufous and the back and underparts are gray. It has a black facial mask, a weak moustachial stripe, and a pale, broad rufous crown band. The white wing speculum may be small or inconspicuous.
It forages low in shrubs or on the ground for small fruits, seeds, insects, and nectar. The only documented nest described by American Bird Conservancy was an open grass cup low in a dense shrub, with two white eggs spotted reddish brown.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
