A small sparrow of the Sonoran Desert, from the southwestern United States into northwestern Mexico. It uses dry scrub and grassland, and breeds around the start of the summer rains.
A gray face, pale bill, and rusty crown, eyeline, and shoulder mark help identify it.
It searches for seeds, insects, and spiders on the ground. It rests in shade during hot periods and nests in shrubs or small trees.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
