This fruit bat has no tail and a soft, woolly coat. It is known from the montane Andes from Venezuela to Peru; the source says its range limits remain uncertain because collections are geographically incomplete.
Its coat is soft and woolly, and dense fur covers the body, head, and feet. It lacks a tail and conspicuous shoulder hair patches, and has a reduced interfemoral membrane.
In Venezuela it was reported mainly from cloud forest above 2,200 m. Faecal samples from 13 bats contained 14 fruit items and no insects; the authors suggested a strongly plant-based diet but cautioned that the sample was small.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
