This fruit-eating bat ranges across Central and South America. It is often recorded in moist forests, and there are records of it eating small figs.
The back is dark brown, almost blackish on the head and shoulders, while the underparts are paler. Two narrow buffy-brown stripes run from the nose-leaf toward the crown behind the ears.
Many collection records are from open spaces such as flyways or areas over water, and specimens also come from moist forests and cloud forests. In southwestern Colombia, some bats were reported to feed almost exclusively on small figs.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
