This small bat is recorded from the Caribbean side of eastern Nicaragua. Morphological, karyotypic, and DNA comparisons led the authors to describe a population previously treated as R. tumida as a distinct species.
The holotype was described as having a fuscous-black back and a buffy-brown underside. This color account applies specifically to the single holotype.
The collection area near Rama lies in Nicaragua’s Caribbean lowlands, described as hot, humid, and characterized by tropical forest. The paper does not identify the precise habitat at each capture point.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
