The Chuuk flying fox lives in the Caroline Islands of Micronesia. The study treats the Mortlock population and the populations on Chuuk Lagoon and Namonuito as two subspecies of one species.
The original 1836 description of the Mortlock subspecies notes a round white patch on the belly and a smaller size than the flying fox of nearby Kosrae.
Field observations in 2004 found Mortlock flying foxes roosting in trees alone or in groups of about 5–10, with 27 the largest roost noted. Their diet included at least eight plant species, and breadfruit was preferred.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
