A wild pig that forages in groups in forests and wetlands of eastern and southern Africa.
Coat color varies with age, individual, sex, and region, from reddish brown to nearly black. Long bristles form a mane from between the ears along the back; the raised, warty snout is prominent in males.
It is mostly nocturnal and shelters in dense vegetation. Groups of up to about 12 may root for food, and it sometimes eats fruit dropped by monkeys.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
