This parakeet has a green body crossed by black bars. Subspecies differ in color intensity and range, and wild birds may form groups in trees.
Adults of the nominate subspecies are green with fine black barring on the upperparts and wings. The other subspecies is darker green with stronger barring. Nominate females tend to have narrower bars.
Wild birds eat catkins, bamboo seeds, and fruit. They are social and may gather in communal roosts high in trees.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
