This parakeet occurs in northeastern Brazil. Adults have yellow heads and necks with orange breasts and bellies; it also uses forest edges and palm groves.
Adult males and females look alike: the head and neck are yellow, the forehead and area around the eyes orange, the back and wings green, and the breast and belly bright orange. Juveniles retain green head markings and have a paler underside.
The species account reports a diet of seeds, nuts, and fruit, and nesting in cavities in trees and palms.
