Ikonnikov's whiskered bat can be distinguished from a close relative by the blood-vessel pattern in its tail membrane. A Nikko study found it using multiple trees as day roosts.
The main blood vessel visible in the tail membrane has a bent, dog-leg shape. In the closely related whiskered bat used for comparison, it is straight.
A study tracking nine bats in Nikko found 16 roost trees. The bats selected snags and larger stems, and changed roosts every one or two days.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
