A long-tailed owl with a white face bordered in black. It lives in northern forests and hunts from treetops during the day.
Its brown back has white spots, its underparts have horizontal bars, and a black line borders the white face.
By day it watches for voles and other small mammals from a tree perch, then swoops low to catch them. It is usually resident but may move south for food when prey is scarce.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
