The male Vanikoro Flycatcher is a small flycatcher with a bluish-black head and orange underparts. It uses forests as well as gardens and cultivated places with scattered trees, where it takes insects and other small food.
The nominate male has a glossy bluish-black head, chin, and throat, a bluish-grey back, dark wings and tail, and orange underparts. Females are paler overall, and the source notes variation among subspecies.
It uses forests and forest edges, but also town gardens and cultivated areas with scattered trees. Its diet includes insects, small lizards, and small fruits. Both sexes build a nest and share incubation and care of the young.
The nest is decorated on the outside with lichens and leaves.
