The Atlantic Petrel breeds on South Atlantic islands and spends the non-breeding season at sea. A study of birds at sea found cephalopods such as squid among their main foods.
The observed bird was brown above, mixed brown and pale below, with dark underwings and sometimes a pale collar.
A 2019 non-breeding-season study recorded cephalopods and fish in the stomachs of 61 stranded birds, with cephalopods the main food. Gough Island is its main breeding site.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
