This hedgehog was described from eastern China in 2023. Its short spines have bands of white, black, and pale color.
Its short spines are 18–20 mm long. About two-thirds from the base is white, followed by black and pale bands and a black tip. The examined males were generally gray; two of the three females were reddish brown.
Specimens were recorded in scrubland and subtropical evergreen broadleaf forest in Anhui and Zhejiang at 30–700 m.
