This porcupine lives in forests and cultivated areas on Borneo. Its dark brown quills, with pale tips and bases, help identify it.
It appears dark brown from a distance. Its long quills are dark brown with white tips and bases, and hollow quills on the tail make a sound when shaken.
It eats fallen fruits and other plant material and has been recorded in both forests and cultivated areas. The Sarawak Forest Department describes Borneo's three porcupine species as mainly nocturnal, resting in underground holes or burrows by day.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
