This bat has enormous ears and gray-brown dorsal fur peppered with white hairs. It is recorded on the Kai Islands and in northern Queensland; Australian records describe insect hunting in forest. Its large and small Australian forms remain taxonomically unresolved.
The back is grayish brown peppered with white hairs, the underside is paler gray, and the ears are very large. HMW distinguishes large and small Australian forms, which also differ in sella width.
For Australian records, HMW reports foraging in rainforest, gallery forest, paperbark forest, and tropical eucalypt woodland, hunting insects below the canopy. Roosts include caves, abandoned mines, road culverts, and occasionally tree hollows.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
