In the Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia, this warbler is reported at elevations of 1,500–3,000 metres.
Olive upperparts contrast with a grey head, bold black stripes, and a russet crown stripe. Underparts range from bright yellow to pale grey.
It usually stays in the forest understory and is often seen in pairs or mixed flocks.
