This kingfisher occurs in the Philippines. Its brown breast and blue wings stand out, and it takes small animals in open country and along forest edges.
The head and upper back are dark brown, with a white throat, bright blue back, wings and tail, and black shoulder patches. The bill and legs are red.
It uses lowland open country and forest edges as well as waterside habitats. From a perch it watches for prey, taking insects and small vertebrates.
