The Black-capped Petrel is a seabird of the northwestern Atlantic. It breeds in highlands on Hispaniola and searches near the sea surface for fish and squid, mostly at night.
It is a long-winged seabird with a black cap and dark mantle separated by a white collar. Face plumage varies, with dark-faced, white-faced, and intermediate forms.
It feeds mostly at night, picking fish, squid, and crustaceans from the water surface. It nests in existing cavities among high-elevation forest and rocky slopes; both sexes take turns incubating.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
