Preuss's red colobus has a dark crown with orange-red cheeks and limbs. Its vocal characteristics are also described as distinctive.
The crown is blackish and the back grey-brown. The cheeks, sides of the neck, limbs, tail, and flanks are orange-red, while the underside is pale buff.
A specialist taxonomic account describes this form as vocally distinct from other red colobus forms.
