Tlacuatzin balsasensis has a recorded observation in Oaxaca, Mexico. In 2021, one animal was found inside a wasp comb on a branch about 4 m above ground at Yerba Santa. It was not collected; identification was visual and based on its fur and geographic range.
The observed animal had brownish dorsal fur with a slight gray cast and yellow-buff underparts. It was not collected, so these are observations of one individual.
In March 2021, an animal was found inside a Polybia wasp comb on a Lonchocarpus branch about 4 m above ground at Yerba Santa, Oaxaca. The authors report this as the first record of wasp-comb nesting for the genus. One observation does not show that this is a usual nesting behavior.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
