The Bare-eyed White-eye is known from Rennell Island in the Solomon Islands. The bare skin around the eye was described in detail in its 1906 original description.
The 1906 type description records a broad bare area around the eye, wrinkled skin and short white hairs in front of it, a white eyebrow, and ashy-white underparts.
A Macaulay Library record from Rennell on 29 September 2010 shows one bird foraging in a tree. This is a single observation.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
