This beaked whale lives in cold North Atlantic waters. Its reported diet is mainly squid and small fish, although its natural history remains poorly known.
It has a long, slender beak and a bulge on the forehead. The body is dark gray with a paler underside; spots are common in adults but fewer in young animals.
Squid and small fish are listed as prey. Other details of its behavior in the wild are limited.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
