The jay has a green body, blue crown, black throat and facial markings, and yellow outer tail feathers. Family groups search woodland and scrub for food. This account is scoped to the northern Cyanocorax luxuosus group recognized in the AOS proposal.
The upperparts are green, the crown and nape blue, and black marks the throat and around the eye. The outer tail feathers are yellow; the bright colors and facial pattern are conspicuous.
Family groups move through woodland and scrub in search of insects, fruits, and small vertebrates. In southern Texas, records include streamside thickets and orchards, and group foraging has been reported.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
