The Cream-throated White-eye occurs in Indonesia's North Maluku islands. A 2010 survey recorded it on Obi, where the observers heard it often but saw it only occasionally.
Two birds photographed on Obi varied in throat color from creamy white to grey; one also showed a dark, fuscous-olive tinge on the crown.
The survey recorded the species in primary forest, logged forest, forest edges, and secondary growth. The team heard it commonly but saw it only occasionally.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
