A yellow, downcurved bill, white eyebrow and chestnut back identify this babbler. It forages in the lower growth of forests on Java and Bali.
The crown is dark grey, the sides of the head are black with a white eyebrow, and the back and flanks are chestnut. The underside is white, and the yellow bill curves down. The sexes are similar.
It uses undergrowth in moist lowland and montane forests, as well as secondary forest and bamboo. Birds forage alone, in pairs or small parties, eating snails, spiders, insects, seeds and fruits.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
