The Chinese birch mouse has a brown, unstriped back and is reported to build grass nests. Recent research suggests that the group historically treated under this name includes multiple species.
The back is brown without black stripes, the underside is light brown, and the brown tail is unicolored and about 1.5–1.7 times the head-and-body length.
It builds nearly spherical grass nests, usually placed in gaps between shrubs.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
