The Blue-winged Laughingthrush uses forest undergrowth and bamboo in the Himalayas, from Nepal to southern China and nearby areas. Records are mainly from 900–2,440 m.
At 22–25 cm, it has finely scaled dark brown plumage, rufous-chestnut and black wings with silver-blue edging, and a chestnut tail tip.
It eats insects, berries and seeds, foraging close to the ground in dense cover. It is usually in pairs or small groups and may move lower in winter.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
