Jenkins's shrew tenrec was described from the Mikea Forest in southwestern Madagascar. The original account describes a mixed gray-brown back and a gray underside with pale hair tips.
The dorsal fur mixes gray and brown, while the gray underside has white hair tips. The ears are relatively long.
The holotype was trapped in dry transitional deciduous forest on red sand. The pitfall site had dense low vegetation, including small bushes and succulent euphorbias.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
