The Red-capped Flowerpecker is a small bird of New Guinea and adjacent islands. Males often show red on the crown and rump, and it eats fruit and seeds.
A typical male has a vermilion crown and rump, dark-green upperparts, and a red chest patch. Females lack the chest patch and are paler below; juveniles resemble females and may have a pale bill. The red areas vary among subspecies.
It feeds on fruit, large seeds, and spiders in the canopy and upper forest levels. It also uses flowering or fruiting trees, secondary growth, plantations, and gardens, and is usually resident.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
