This rodent was described from northeastern Madagascar. Its specimen label records rainforest, large granite outcrops, and a hillside with tangled undergrowth.
The back is grayish brown with darker and pale buff bands in the hairs. The underside is cream to buff, and the tail tuft remains dark to the tip.
