This small marsupial was described from south of the Amazon River in Brazil. A forest-restoration study in eastern Amazonia recorded it among the area's common small mammals.
The dorsal fur is usually grayish-brown and the underside is usually white, though some individuals are cream-colored. Its tail is longer than the head and body, and the sides of the belly have bands of hairs with gray bases and white tips.
In a forest-restoration study on former bauxite-mining land in eastern Amazonia, it was commonly recorded and its occurrences were associated with higher forest cover and litter. This was a local association.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
