This large sengi is recorded in two forest blocks in Tanzania’s Udzungwa Mountains. Its face is grizzled gray, and it lives in moist evergreen montane forest. It makes ground nests lined with leaves.
The face and forehead are grizzled gray. Black fur is restricted to the lower rump and thighs, while yellow-rufous fur extends from behind the ears to the shoulders and becomes orange-rufous on the sides.
It was found in moist submontane and montane evergreen closed-canopy forest, including bamboo thickets. The five nests examined were leaf-lined cups on the forest floor; four were at tree bases.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
