This rodent lives mainly in burrows beneath flat grassland in eastern Argentina. It comes above ground to eat grasses and roots.
Its back is dark gray to black, its sides are reddish brown, and its belly is cream-colored. White patches occur behind the ears, in the armpits, and near the hind legs.
It makes burrows under flat pasture and favors firmer, organic soil with dense plants. Above ground, it feeds on grasses and roots.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
